If you decide to make an adoption plan for your child, we'll help you explore that option, and refer you to an agency that will guide you through the process. Healthy Start is part of the medical Assistance Program (Medicaid). It pays for medical care for pregnant women, babies, and children. Most babies are covered until they are one year old. Individuals who are under-insured and/or don’t have health coverage for prenatal care or the birth of the baby may be eligible for Healthy Start. The program pays for all doctor visits and hospital costs, prescription drugs, delivery of the baby, medical, dental, vision, and counseling for pregnant women up to sixty days following delivery, and the same health care services for children born after September 30, 1983. Health Check also covers school-aged children’s annual physicals, sports, and camp physicals. Eligibility requirements are based on family’s gross income; there is no asset test. Higher income families may qualify if they have child care, work-related, or medical expenses. Eligibility guidelines change annually.
